Samenvatting van de cursus :

The research group Transport Technology at Ghent University is specialized in internal combustion engines. These are an essential part of a sustainable energy and transportation system: such a system needs fuels, next to electrification, and combustion engines are a sustainable and scalable technology to convert the future renewable fuels to (motive) power. The group's research is partly focused on the in-cylinder processes (spray formation, combustion, heat transfer and emission formation); and partly on the engine as part of a bigger system.

The Transport Technology group’s vision and mission are to enable the transition to sustainable transportation

through finding the best engine and fuel for each application, by providing R&D tools to the research community and industry, training to students and researchers, and guidelines to policy makers.

The group’s work includes both experimental as numerical work. The experimental work is done on 5 engine test benches and a constant volume combustion chamber. The numerical work focuses on 0D and 1D modelling of engine processes and engine operation.

Professor Sebastian Verhelst en zijn teamleden zullen ons uitleg geven over de geschiedenis van het onderzoekslaboratorium, de huidige onderzoeksthema’s en de toekomstige weg die zal gevolgd worden. Aansluitend volgt een bezoek aan de labo-opstellingen.

Verzamelplaats : aan het studentenplein aan de Sint-Pietersnieuwstraat 41 om 14u STIPT ! Dit is het plein tussen het “Universiteitsforum” (UFO) en het studentenrestaurant de Brug.
